The president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez, has highlighted the new line of work that the counselor Ángel Vázquez has established and developed during this last year in the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and that has left 8.7 million euros of operating profit during the first semester of 2024.
“With the management of the PP, the 140,000 euros of losses left by the PSOE in June 2023 were transformed at the end of last year into 2.9 million euros of profits, and that is an undeniable reality”, says the island leader. “Once again, the Popular Party is demonstrating its firm commitment to the society of Lanzarote and is once again giving an example of capacity and rigor in the management of what is the largest public company on the island”, says Astrid Pérez.
For the former counselor of the Tourist Centers during the period 2009-2012, "what is important is not only the numbers, but also the advances that have been made in labor matters with the approval of the new collective agreement and the new canon that has been negotiated and agreed with the City Councils of Yaiza, Haría and Tinajo after the update of rates that came into force at the beginning of the year." Pérez recalls that this last agreement “was valued positively and significantly by the highest municipal officials who, as in the case of Haria, have even described it as historic.”
The populars have assured that "compared to the mess and the bluff that the PSOE's passage through the Centers meant, Ángel Vázquez has also managed to ensure that the profits of the public company revert to the population of the island not only through the canon to the Cabildo and the City Councils, but also through the Corporate Social Responsibility that has allowed the development of actions and initiatives aimed at the cultural, sports and social roots in which 2.2 million euros have been invested.”
Although she recognizes that the work "is practically starting", the president of the populars considers that "the results can already be seen at an economic level, in the quality of the service and in the revaluation of the image of the Centers themselves, which are unique spaces that should be benchmarks in quality and excellence.”
The accounting makeup maneuver of the PSOE
It must be remembered that it has been the external audit contracted by the previous management that has highlighted "the disastrous management carried out by the PSOE by leaving accounts plagued with delays, corrections and significant mismatches." From the PP they consider that "the assessment that the socialists can now make about the current management of the Tourist Centers has no credibility after leaving the public company on the verge of bankruptcy in 2011 and the financial makeup that the past mandate applied to the accounts to inflate the profits."
