The concessionaire company of the Islas Canarias parking lot will assume the repair of the square and the park that exists on the roof of the parking lot, built with an administrative concession in 2000. This was announced this Wednesday by the mayoress of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, who offered a press conference in the same park to announce the commitment assumed by the company to make this investment.

In this regard, Pérez recalled that the title of the administrative concession authorized by Costas two decades ago obliged the company Aparcamientos Parque Islas Canarias SL to carry out the maintenance of this space.

The first mayor, who appeared accompanied by councilors Eduardo Placeres, María Jesús Tovar and Eli Merino, said that throughout 2021 the Islas Canarias Park will premiere "a renewed, cared for and repaired image." "This park cannot continue adrift and exhibiting the palpable state of abandonment", said the popular mayoress.

“The Arrecife City Council has 11 percent of the shares in this commercial company that was established for the construction of the underground parking lot, and on this building the square and the park. From the title of the concession it follows that the conservation, maintenance and repair corresponds to the concessionaire company. This is what we have required in this time”, remarked the first capital mayor.

The mayoress recalled that with that minority percentage in that company, the City Council cannot make decisions but that, given the deterioration of the park, she contacted the company to urge them to do the work.

In addition, Ástrid Pérez has explained that last Wednesday "for the first time" since 2000 a general assembly and a board of directors of the company were held, "which until now had not renewed its members representing the Arrecife City Council." Thus, since last week the councilors María Jesús Tovar and Elisabeth Merino Betancor have joined the board of directors of this company.

Asked by journalists, Astrid Pérez stated that she has seen in these meetings with the representatives of the company "receptivity and approval to the demands raised from the Consistory to undertake the reform, repair and maintenance of the park and square, as specified in the title of the concession".

The mayoress stressed that one of her priorities during this term is "the recovery and enhancement of all existing parks and public spaces in the capital of Lanzarote".
