Arrecife is running to host the headquarters of the third base of the General Corps of the Canarian Police. This was announced by the Municipal Government group (PP-CC) after negotiations and meetings with the General Directorate of Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, to assess the viability of the proposal offered by the institution: the old premises of the Local Police, where the Citizen Service offices are currently located.

The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, recalled that there is a plenary agreement of the Municipal Council requesting the Government of the Canary Islands to deploy the Canarian Police in Lanzarote, and as its headquarters, our capital.

Yonathan de León recalled that "Arrecife is the capital of the island, of those known as less populated, with the largest population, and where it currently has around seventy thousand inhabitants. As much population as the sum of the next three conejeros municipalities together, in order of population".

The mayor, who is also the direct head of the Local Police of Arrecife, recalled that "local officers work in a coordinated manner with other police forces, with good results for the security of the capital, as has been proven this week with several interventions".

For Yonathan de León, "the establishment of the Canarian Police in Arrecife is to reinforce that the agreement of the municipal plenary, with the support also of a resolution of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, reflects that our group does its work for the benefit of the conejera society".

The Deputy Mayor and Head of Internal Affairs, Echedey Eugenio, expressed his confidence in the final result of the assessment. "We are the third capital of the Canary Islands and, as such, we deserve special attention in terms of security," said Eugenio, who also recalled that "the incorporation of Arrecife as the third fixed base of the Canarian Police has been one of our demands and our commitments, and we will soon be able to say that we have fulfilled another of our objectives".

Eugenio stressed that the choice of Arrecife as the headquarters of the third base of the Canarian Police "would be a significant step in terms of equity and territorial justice." "It cannot be installed in another place on the island. It is our turn because of population and justice," stresses the Deputy Mayor.

Finally, the City Council points out that "the decision to establish this permanent base in the capital of Lanzarote would represent an important step forward in strengthening citizen security throughout the island. The measure will undoubtedly contribute to improving efficiency in police response and to ensuring the tranquility and well-being of both residents and visitors".
