The Arrecife Municipal Library, located in the Civic Center, becomes the first in Lanzarote to offer an automated tablet lending system, an innovative service that allows users to enjoy the latest technology for study, reading, or browsing within the facilities.
This initiative, driven by the Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council, headed by Abigail González, represents a step forward in the modernization of municipal library services, bringing technology closer to all citizens and promoting digital inclusion.
“We want the Arrecife Municipal Library to continue being a vibrant space, open to innovation and adapted to new ways of accessing information. With this tablet lending system, we are taking another step in the digitalization of public cultural services,” highlights councilwoman Abigail González.
The new service uses Hublet technology, an intelligent device management and lending system used in libraries, educational centers, and hospitals in numerous countries. The Hublet stations allow for the automated lending, charging, security, and digital cleaning of tablets, ensuring that each device is ready for new use after its return.
The system allows any user with a library card, both adults and minors, to use a tablet within the building. To access the service, simply identify yourself at the charging station using your card's code and PIN. The system automatically provides the tablet with the highest available battery level.
**The sessions last two hours**, with a one-minute warning before they end, and the content is automatically deleted when the device is returned to the station, thus guaranteeing the privacy and security of each user.
This service is not available to individuals with a blocked ID card, and each user will be able to have one tablet per session
With this initiative, the Arrecife Municipal Library reinforces its role as a "cultural and technological benchmark on the island, facilitating access to digital resources and contributing to reducing the digital divide among citizens".
