The Arrecife City Council has announced a new public tender aimed at modernizing and renewing the fleet of vehicles assigned to the Civil Protection Unit, attached to the Department of Security and Emergencies.
The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has announced that the City Council has allocated nearly half a million euros for the acquisition of new vehicles and motorcycles, as part of the modernization plan that the Municipal Government has underway to increase resources for security and emergencies in the capital of Lanzarote.
Yonathan de León, who is also the direct head of the Local Police, recalled that the Local Police officers already have a renewed fleet of 13 vehicles, four of them unmarked cars, which allows reinforcing police investigation and security work in the neighborhoods. This fleet, the largest in the history of Arrecife, was launched last spring.
The mayor emphasized that both the Local Police and Civil Protection are seeing the incorporation of new personnel and resources to make it possible for Arrecife to be a safe capital and be equipped to deal with emergency situations or catastrophes.
The Councilor for Security and Emergencies of Arrecife, Kevin Cortés, has informed that companies wishing to participate in this new tender for 6 vehicles have until November 4 to submit their commercial and technical proposals. The Arrecife City Council published the tender announcement on the Public Sector Procurement Platform on October 1.
The mayor and the Councilor for Security and Emergencies announced this new tender for Civil Protection during a recent visit to the headquarters of the Civil Protection Group, located in the industrial area of Valterra and Puerto de Naos. Arrecife's Civil Protection currently has a fleet of vehicles with a great age, and with the acquisition underway, it will be equipped with state-of-the-art vehicles.
The tender is integrated into four lots, and will allow Civil Protection to incorporate two vans, two all-terrain vehicles, a light vehicle, and a forklift, which will be used in emergency situations in movements of vehicles affected by flood disasters. The amount of this tender is 311,000 euros, to which is added the amount for the acquisition of new motorcycles and improvements to the central PCA warehouse, up to around 500,000 euros of global investment. Arrecife has become this year the municipality of Lanzarote where its local administration invests more for the safety and protection of citizens.
Kevin Cortés emphasized that the Civil Protection Group is being strengthened with the incorporation of new volunteers, to whom he thanked for their dedication and help to the citizens.
Along with the mayor and the Councilor for Emergencies and Security, who also announced the new Civil Protection motorcycles, launched this past summer, was present Marco, the Technical Coordinator of Civil Protection of Arrecife, Marcos Antonio Rosario Galindo, officer of the Local Police of Arrecife, responsible for the Unit of Drones and Operational Robotics in Navigation (UDRON), and Municipal Coordinator of Civil Protection of Arrecife.
Rosario Galindo has recently participated, as a speaker, in the National School of Civil Protection where he presented the experience of the use of drones in Arrecife. The Drone Unit of the Local Police of the capital provides valuable information to act immediately in large concentrations or emergency situations.
