The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Social Services, led by Maite Corujo, is promoting an agreement with the La Caja de Canarias Foundation, the '2023 School Social Aid Program'.
A program that aims to "complement the City Council's aid for basic school supplies, such as books and uniforms," and that is aimed at students from vulnerable families who, for various reasons, "cannot afford educational expenses, nor can they receive aid through the usual procedure."
In this sense, de León has remarked that "we are adding the collaboration of social foundations so that the families of Arrecife have more help." The municipal investment is "reinforced with these contributions, which cover many needs." The mayor emphasizes that the "majority of families in vulnerable situations in Lanzarote reside in the capital", "and that is why we adhere to this agreement." For her part, after recalling that "these are difficult times," the Councilor for Social Services, Maite Corujo, points out that "thanks to the involvement of the La Caja de Canarias Foundation, we will be able to cover the needs of 52 families in the municipality with children between 3 and 16 years old enrolled in Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary Education cycles," the councilor stated.
The '2023 School Aid' program is carried out through a collaboration agreement between public administrations and the La Caja de Canarias Foundation, to which the Arrecife City Council is attached. The processing of this type of aid is carried out through technicians from the Department of Social Services who evaluate the applications, taking into account family income, the number of members of the family unit or the social situation of the beneficiaries.
Once the assessments have been made, a file is prepared and sent to the Foundation for payment to the families.
