The Arrecife City Council has announced that it will increase university transport aid from the next academic year 2022-2023 up to a maximum of 600 euros, after the plenary session initially approved the modification of the general ordinance that regulates said aid. From the Consistory they assure that this ordinance had not been updated "for almost a decade."

"We are going to make an economic effort from the City Council in order to help many families in Arrecife, with university children, to cover the expenses generated by their trips to other islands or to the Peninsula, at a time when the economic situation in general is being very complicated," says the mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez.

For her part, the Councilor for Education of the Arrecife City Council, Saro González, points out that the intention "is to speed up the processing of the files of the calls for subsidies as well as their concession, promote greater administrative collaboration in the expenses generated, as well as proceed to adapt the training reality of the ordinance to the provisions of the norm."

From the Arrecife City Council they explain that during the plenary session it was clear that the legal framework that configures the file "has become obsolete, in that there is a gap between the predominant reality and that contemplated in the general ordinance." As an example, they point out from the Consistory that it was mentioned that when referring to academic training courses taken outside of Lanzarote "the rise achieved by online training is not taken into account, which allows studying remotely from the island and traveling only to take exams."

On the other hand, the capital City Council adds that the use of new technologies as well as the implementation of electronic administration by regulatory imperative "have streamlined the processing of documentation, and today the number of days set as a deadline for the delivery of documentation is excessive, so it is advisable to adapt it to real needs."
