The Department of Social Welfare, Immigration and Equality of the Arrecife City Council takes a further step in protecting women victims of gender violence with actions such as the changing of locks and cylinders in the homes of those affected.

This service, which is part of the actions financed with funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence, has been consolidated as an essential measure to guarantee the safety of women and their families. As reported by the councillor, this service, free of charge for the beneficiaries, is designed to create a safe environment, minimizing the risk that aggressors can re-enter the victims' homes.

“The main objective of the lock and cylinder changing service is to increase the protection of women who have suffered gender violence, as well as that of the sons and daughters who live with them,” emphasizes Maite Corujo, who also stresses that “these actions are part of our commitment to collaborate with the victim protection system and guarantee that their rights and safety are a priority.”

“We want women to feel safe in their homes, free from the fear that their aggressors may re-enter their lives. This service not only protects the victims, but also their families, turning their homes into safer spaces,” insists the councillor.

This service is provided in close collaboration with the Arrecife Local Police who, after receiving the victim's request, coordinate the execution of the change of lock or cylinder in the affected home. The purpose is to act quickly and effectively to ensure the immediate protection of the victims.

Women residing in the municipality of Arrecife who have a protection order can access this service by contacting the Local Police. Subsequently, the intervention is coordinated to ensure that the victim's home is permanently protected. This service is financed thanks to funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence, granted by the Ministry of Equality of the Government of Spain.

The funds allow city councils, such as Arrecife, to assume new powers or expand existing ones in the fight against gender violence, thus guaranteeing a comprehensive and effective response to this problem. “We continue working to offer resources and support to women who need it. This service is just one of the many initiatives that we have implemented and will continue to develop to fight against gender violence in our municipality,” concluded Corujo.

For more information or to access the service, women can contact the Arrecife Local Police at telephone 928 811 317, where they will be provided with the necessary assistance.
