The Arrecife City Council celebrated this Thursday night in La Recova the institutional act of awarding the first honorary medals granted during this term by the Municipal Government led by Mayor Yonathan de León. These medals recognized the contributions, value, and trajectory of the members of the Arrecife Civil Protection Group, the Local Police officer and technical coordinator of Civil Protection, Marco Antonio Galindo, and the agent of the Local Police force and head of the Civil Protection Group, Osbaldo Espino Delgado.
A wide representation of civil and military authorities from Lanzarote accompanied the honorees, who were also supported by their families and colleagues from the police forces and other Civil Protection groups in Lanzarote.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, directly responsible for activating the PEMU, Municipal Emergency Plans, highlighted in the act that "during this term Arrecife is modernizing and transforming. And Civil Protection is within the Municipal Areas that will experience great progress, with more resources and investments. The mayor encouraged the members of Civil Protection to "continue together, encouraging more professionals, more people, to feel the pride and desire to belong to and collaborate with Civil Protection every day. Future incorporations will be welcome."
The mayor, who detailed the many merits of Civil Protection, and of the police officers Osbaldo Espino and Marcos Antonio Rosario, had words of recognition for the direct families of these decorated and recognized people with the highest distinction of the City of Arrecife, collected in the Regulation of Honors and Distinctions.
"Today Arrecife, with this institutional act - remarked the mayor - also wishes that gratitude reaches the families of each of you. I wish to praise the commitment of those who dedicate their time to others, taking that time away from their family, friends, and hobbies. We are, from the heart, and I say it out loud, very grateful to those families of yours, to each one, to those who are, to those who have been, and to those who will come. A society needs the strength of Volunteers to move forward. They always give what they have and give value to what is done and needed."
For his part, the Councilor for Security and Emergencies of Arrecife, the municipal area to which the Civil Protection Group is attached, during his speech - which was preceded by the projection of two videos with the important work that Civil Protection has developed, showed "the pride of the prestige enjoyed by the group of volunteers, and by Galindo and Espino Delgado, whose knowledge makes the Civil Protection Unit of Arrecife one of the most qualified."
Cortés, promoter in the plenary of these distinctions, detailed the new acquisitions to strengthen and improve the services of this group, with new acquisitions of vehicles, and constant training.
The councilor showed the humanistic side of the members of Civil Protection, whose constant dedication has no price to be compensated. The only reward, and the most valuable, is the personal satisfaction of each one, for helping when needed in emergency situations, where in the Canary Islands several have been experienced, such as the evacuations due to the eruptions of the volcano in La Palma, the deployments of humanitarian aid to those affected by the Dana of Valencia, for which the sending of aid from Civil Protection Arrecife was activated, or the collaboration to the residents of the city in the face of the episodes of serious floods, such as those registered last April, which affected several families residing in the neighborhoods on the periphery of the capital of Lanzarote.
On behalf of the Civil Protection Group of Arrecife, the parchment and the Gold Medal of the City of Arrecife was received by Náyade Medina de León, from the hands of the mayor. The police officer Marcos Antonio Rosario Galindo, member of the drafting team of the Municipal Emergency Plan of Arrecife, and technical coordinator of Civil Protection of Arrecife, received the bronze medal, as did his police colleague, Osbaldo Espino Delgado, head of the Civil Protection Group. Each of the members of the group of volunteers was called to the stage where they received the insignia of the Civil Protection Medal from the hands of the mayor.
The act, presented by the journalist and expert in protocol ceremonies María de Pino Fuentes, featured the performance of the classical violinist duo formed by Iya Zhmaeva and Diego Bermúdez, and also the musical accompaniment of Alexis Lemes and Sara Bermúdez, uniting the Canarian melodies with the sound of the timple.
