Arrecife approves granting a medal to the Lanzarote Military Aerodrome

The plenary session of the Municipal Corporation of Arrecife approved, in its extraordinary session this Thursday, June 12, the awarding of medals to the Canary Islands Air Command, the Lanzarote Military Aerodrome and the EVA 22, following the regulations of Honors and Distinctions of the Arrecife City Council. The spokesperson for the PP, and Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Sports, Eli Merino, has been the instructor of the file for granting these high honorary distinctions, which had the plenary approval after the corresponding instruction.

For the first time the city will be the setting for the celebration of Armed Forces Day, a commitment by the city council, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, and with the organization and direct support of the Department of Commerce and Tourism, to contribute and give visibility to the role of the Army on the island, and to publicize the commitment they play in the interest of peace and security of all Spaniards, and of the entire national territory.

In this sense, the mayor points out that this Saturday the city will "experience a commemorative day marked by the meeting of the civilian population with the military, in which various activities open to the general public will take place."

For her part, Elisabet Merino, Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, elaborates on them, indicating that these activities will take place in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, in the vicinity of the Music Kiosk, where you can visit a static exhibition of military material, use an F-18 flight simulator and thus experience the sensations of piloting a fighter plane.

At 12.30 pm, the Music Unit of the Canary Islands Air Command will offer a live concert in this same park, with a wide repertoire of military pieces and popular culture. In the afternoon will be the main events, with a solemn lowering of the flag and tribute to the fallen at 6:00 pm and, once the National Flag is lowered, the general chief of the Canary Islands Air Command, Francisco Javier Vidal Fernández, authority who presides over the act, will hand it over to the Arrecife City Council, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 225th anniversary of the City. This act will conclude with a military parade along Avenida La Marina.

Arrecife, which celebrates the 225th anniversary of the birth of the municipality, will grant honors to the Canary Islands Air Command, the Lanzarote Military Aerodrome and the EVA 22, within the framework of the historic building of La Recova. It will do so during an institutional act that will begin at 7:00 p.m., under the supervision and organization of the Department of Tourism of the Arrecife City Council.
