The spokesperson for Nueva Canarias, Arminda Barreto, is clear that "sports practice is today a fundamental element for the well-being of citizens," as recognized by "numerous scientific studies," not only for "its benefits for physical and mental health," but also for "its contribution to reducing social inequalities and promoting social inclusion," she comments. In addition to "promoting essential values in every society," she adds.
"In Tías we have an extensive sporting tradition and a great variety of sports and clubs with a long history," they acknowledge. However, "we have had and continue to have shortcomings in terms of infrastructure, problems in the management of spaces and also in the economic administration of them," indicates Barreto.
"Thus, we have sports facilities that have not been able to be opened for the use and enjoyment of citizens due to difficulties in management," she confesses. Among which we find the "well-known municipal swimming pool," which "remains unopened despite the fact that almost 10 years have passed since its construction," or "the Municipal Sports Center, which was closed for more than 6 months, forcing the teams and their bases to train in unsuitable spaces or to play in pavilions outside the municipality," explains Barreto.
In this sense, they believe that "it would be a great step forward to have a municipal sports center in Puerto del Carmen", since "clubs such as Handball or La Tiñosa de Fútbol Sala, still have to go to Tías town because the sports spaces of the Institute of Puerto del Carmen have quite a few shortcomings both in changing rooms and in terms of their stands," explains David Machín, captain of the Sporting Tías Football Club.
"Given the existence of two football clubs in the municipality, it would also be convenient to recondition the facilities to favor the coexistence of both entities," says Machín. In addition, he demands "more weight for the native Canarian sports", as he believes that these modalities "should also have greater sports subsidies from the City Council of Tías".
"Having new open sports spaces in Puerto del Carmen"
He also points out that a possible alternative would be "to have new open sports spaces in Puerto del Carmen, where it would also be possible to practice many other outdoor sports".
From the party, they focus attention "on the maintenance of these sports spaces in the municipality", they emphasize. "Tías has sports facilities in poor condition or in inadequate cleaning conditions," they confess. As is the case of "the public courts that are distributed throughout the municipality or the playgrounds, which have been in a high level of deterioration for years and are now beginning to be repaired," they point out.
In addition to, "the cleaning of the floor of the Municipal Sports Center, something that causes difficulties in the training of the different clubs, whose members are forced to reduce their training or to clean the floor themselves before training," he clarifies.
"The creation of a program that promotes sports practice with courses, competitions, etc."
In this regard, the party has proposals such as: "the creation of a program that promotes sports practice in the municipality, especially for those social groups that need it most", "days such as "Bike Day", "Walking to School", "Sports on the Beach" and "Hiking Routes", different courses, school sports competitions, talks and workshops in educational centers.
A Plan that "aims to improve existing sports infrastructures, optimizing cleaning, maintenance, accessibility and management" and creating, in addition, "new infrastructures that bring sport closer to each of the localities of the municipality, including parks, promenades or avenues", he adds.
