The government pact between PSOE and PIL is faltering in the institutions of Lanzarote. After several weeks of rumors, last Saturday, Antonio Hernández, president of the PIL and councilor of Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, made public the situation of "little collaboration" on the part of his partners. Hernández referred to "a situation of invasion of areas" and "obstacles to the management of the PIL councilors." "When there is a pact it should be a single group and not two, as there are right now," said Antonio Hernández, highlighting the disagreements within the Government Group.

After the meeting of the Political Council of the PIL, the party decided to convene the monitoring table of the pact for this week. This Wednesday, Antonio Hernández announced that he had spoken with some members of the Board and that the meeting could take place "this afternoon", although the PSOE ruled it out, assuring that it continues to await confirmation of the date for its celebration.

While the Party of Independents of Lanzarote assures that they are not going to stand idly by in the face of the situation that is being experienced in all the institutions governed under this pact, Carlos Espino, spokesman for the socialists in the Cabildo, has alleged that the PSOE "will speak with the PIL at the pact table, because we do not use the media to dialogue with our partners."

It is notorious that one of the main triggers of the tensions between PSOE and PIL has been the General Urban Planning Plan of Arrecife. The capital's City Council has been the epicenter of a series of discrepancies that have been spreading to the rest of the institutions, including the Cabildo. "Certain grievances have been more evident in the Arrecife city council, but certain issues always arise that produce discrepancies in all institutions," explained the vice president of the Cabildo, Fabián Martín. "In all of them there have been reasons, although perhaps not with as much virulence as in Arrecife."

A breakdown of the government pact would shake the political structure of a large part of the Island. At the moment, the PIL and the PSOE govern together in the town councils of Arrecife, Tías, San Bartolomé and Teguise, in addition to the First Corporation.

On the other hand, for several days there has been talk of negotiations between PIL and Coalición Canaria with a view to the general elections in March. Despite the evident lack of consonance between both formations during the last year, the nationalist discourse has been stronger when weighing the possibility of running together in the next elections. "This nationalist agreement is not closed either: conversations have begun but without evident results yet," explained Fabián Martín. "It is true that PIL and CC have not loved each other too much, but it is a decision of the party and the members of the political council, even being aware of the divergences between both parties, intend to achieve that nationalist agreement."
