The Arrecife City Council has announced that a total of 591 university or Vocational Training students who are studying courses that are not taught in Lanzarote, either on another island or in the Peninsula, "have received a bank transfer in these days for an amount of 338.98 euros", as aid to students for the 2020-2021 academic year.
In the call for transport aid for higher education students, the number of recipients has increased from the 503 beneficiaries of the 2019-2020 academic year to the 591 of the current academic year.
"We have increased the item from 170,000 to 200,000 euros in the last two years," according to the Councilor for Education, Saro González, who recalls that "the City Council has made an effort to increase the funds at a delicate time for the solvency of families due to the pandemic."
A total of 604 applications for financial aid were submitted, which means that "only 13 have been excluded", they point out from the City Council, "either because the applicants did not appear in the census, had some debt with the Local Administration or simply did not complete the required documentation."
The Arrecife City Council highlights that, despite having to correct some errors in the granting of several of the aid, and it was necessary for its approval to return to the plenary session in October, it has finally paid them "earlier than those of the 2019-2020 academic year that were entered in January of this year."
Finally, they explain from the Council that they will inform "in a timely manner of the new call for the current 2021-2022 academic year", which has not yet been published, but in which they are working to be able to announce it "as soon as possible."
