A total of 107 people are competing for 11 positions in the Yaiza Local Police

This call is due to the population increase that the municipality has experienced in recent years, especially the tourist town of Playa Blanca, which is in full tourist effervescence. Likewise, and as sources from the southern City Council relate, we must not forget that the extension of the municipality exceeds 211 square kilometers, a proportion similar to that of the Island of El Hierro, and that generates great problems when providing an effective service in all areas, due to the lack of personnel that existed until now.

For this reason, the staff of the Yaiza Local Police will experience a considerable increase with the incorporation, after passing the corresponding tests, of these new 11 agents, who will join the 29 existing troops, and that will surely allow to increase security and improve traffic in the municipality.

The incorporations will take place before 2006

The Department of Security, Police, Civil Protection and Traffic of Yaiza, under the direction of the councilor José Antonio Lemes Cabrera, intends to have a staff of 40 agents before the end of this year, which will cover current and future needs in terms of security, police and traffic in this rural and tourist municipality on the Island of Volcanoes.

After the incorporation of these new agents, in Yaiza there will be three Local Police officers for each member of the Benemérita attached to the Yaiza Barracks, and it will also allow the southern municipality to become one of the Canarian towns with the highest number of agents per population ratio.

The first of the entrance exams took place last Wednesday, August 10, in the halls of the El Molino Cultural Center, in Yaiza, and consisted of medical analyzes, which are a sine qua non condition to access the body. In successive days, as confirmed by municipal sources, the rest of the exercises will take place, consisting of psychotechnical tests, tough physical tests, and finally the theoretical knowledge exam. Finally, the eleven selected will join the ranks of the body, after passing through the Canary Islands Security Academy, where they will have to undergo several months of learning to complete their training.
