The call for a cleaning strike affecting the eleven schools in the capital has been postponed until next Wednesday, December 9, after reaching an agreement in principle with the owners of the company Clusa, in a meeting held this Wednesday at the Arrecife City Council.
According to the general secretary of UGT in Lanzarote, César Reyes, "the company has committed to paying one of the two outstanding payrolls throughout this week, with the commitment to pay the second one pending for the following week." With this commitment, the strike announced by the company committee, which was to begin this Wednesday, has been stopped at the last moment, but taking into account that if "the payment of those payrolls is not made, we will start again", Reyes clarifies.
No news in Tías
Regarding the strike called for December 6 in Tías by the cleaning workers of the companies Rinsa and Salimpa, who have also not been paid for two months, "there is still no news" according to Reyes.
This Tuesday, in an Urgent Extraordinary Plenary held in the Town Hall of the municipality, it was decided to seize the cleaning service from one of the companies, Salimpa, with the intention that it would serve as a brake on the strike that would affect garbage collection, the cleaning of beaches and parks, as well as the cleaning of schools in Tías. An initiative that César Reyes does not yet qualify because "I have not spoken with the colleagues and until the meeting tomorrow at the Town Hall is held, we will not know if it is enough. It will depend on the conditions".
