The Popular Party of the Canary Islands has presented a Non-Law Proposal to the Regional Parliament to request, among other things, that the lyrics of the Canary Islands anthem be modified and that it makes express reference to the eight Islands, and not to the seven, as is currently the case.
The president of the PP of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Astrid Pérez, values that the Popular Party has been the only political formation that has proposed that reference be made to the eight islands, including La Graciosa, in the Canary Islands anthem.
The initiative, approved with the abstention of VOX, was defended this Wednesday by the parliamentarian of the Popular Group, Rebeca Paniagua, who pointed out that from the PP “we believe it is essential to preserve our culture, our history, our roots so that the next generations have knowledge of our past, our present and thus be able to take care of it in the future. We are Canarian and we are very proud to be so.”
For her part, Astrid Pérez, has stated that “once again the PP demonstrates that it is the only formation that not only defends the interests of the eighth island, but also values the idiosyncrasy and reality of all the people of Graciosa.”
