UNED and the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium have joined forces to promote the training of the fire brigade in psychological care in emergencies, with the aim of improving the response capacity in situations of high emotional impact.
The course Intervention with victims in emergencies: psychological first aid and attention to diversity, which took place on February 14 and 15 in the Aula Magna of UNED Lanzarote, is aimed at emergency professionals and aims to provide essential tools to manage psychological support in the first moments of a crisis.
The Security and Emergency Consortium, aware of the importance of complementing technical preparation with skills in emotional intervention, has promoted the participation of its staff in this training, thus reinforcing its commitment to comprehensive and humanized care in emergencies.
During the opening of the course, the president of the Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, stressed the importance of providing emergency teams with tools that allow them to accompany victims not only from technical assistance, but also from emotional care.
"A rescue does not end with physical care. The way in which the psychological impact is managed in the first moments of an emergency can be decisive for the recovery of the victim. For this reason, it is key that our staff acquire specialized training in this area,” said Aparicio.
He also stressed the need to adapt the intervention to the diversity of the victims, ensuring that vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, people with disabilities or foreigners receive treatment appropriate to their circumstances and needs.
The course, designed and taught by UNED Lanzarote, includes the participation of Natalia Lorenzo Ruiz, a psychologist expert in Emergency and Catastrophe Psychology, and addresses issues such as psychological first aid, communication of bad news, management of victims in shock and care for vulnerable groups.
The training is developed with a practical methodology, which includes analysis of real cases, role-playing and simulations, allowing attendees to acquire skills applicable to their daily work.
With this collaboration, UNED and the Security and Emergency Consortium reinforce their commitment to the continuous training of professionals in the sector, ensuring that Lanzarote firefighters and other emergency responders have the best tools to manage both physical care and the emotional impact of victims.
