The patron saint festivities in honor of San José Obrero in Titerroy culminated this Wednesday with a very crowded procession in the morning and the performance of the Raíces group at night. The neighbors have enjoyed for five days of inflatables, children's and adult playbacks, musical and dance galas, drag gala, folklore festival, chopito and chaporro and soccer tournaments.
The neighbors participated on Wednesday in the solemn function in honor of San José Obrero. Next, the procession of the saint was held through the main streets of this Arrecife neighborhood.
The Raíces group put the finishing touch to the festivities with the performance they offered at 9:30 p.m., on a stage set up on Alcalde Lorenzo street. The ten members of this group, surrounded by the applause of the numerous public that packed the venue, displayed all their art for the enjoyment of the neighbors.
Among the public was also the parish priest Agustín Lasso and the Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Víctor Sanginés, among others. Raíces shelled out for more than 90 minutes some of the songs from their first album "Mixturas" and got the public to leave their chairs and start dancing.
The venue thus became an improvised dance floor, where neighbors and friends who came from other parts of the island enjoyed themselves until the moment of farewell to these festivities in honor of San José Obrero. The public asked Raíces for another song and the group responded and performed for a few more minutes.
Handball Tournament and trip
Although the festivities ended this Wednesday, the neighborhood will still hold a 24-hour San José Obrero Handball tournament, which this year celebrates its XXXVIII edition and will take place this Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5.
In addition, as is traditional, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association will organize a trip after the holidays, this time to La Graciosa. The visit will take place on May 12 and the bus will leave the neighborhood at 7:00 a.m.
The neighborhood group has expressed its satisfaction because, "despite the economic cuts, the Titerroy Festival Commission has organized dignified, quality, participatory patron saint celebrations designed for the tastes of all the residents of the neighborhood", according to the association in a statement.
