The Tías City Council will celebrate March 8, International Women's Day, with more than fifteen online events.
Within the program, the reading of the manifesto stands out, which will take place at 12:00 on March 8 through the facebook Servicios Sociales Tías, by the Mararía association. Also, throughout the month there will be online talks, workshops and an art contest.
The events are organized by the Department of Equality, managed by Nicolás Saavedra, and have the collaboration of the Department of Culture to offer a "varied agenda in telematic format due to health responsibility", to prevent Covid-19 infections.
Nicolás Saavedra stresses the importance of this day and recalls the words of the UN: International Women's Day "refers to ordinary women as makers of history and has its roots in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men."
The program began this Tuesday, March 1, with the publication of the bases on the City Council website of the artistic contest 'Woman and Art', which can be submitted by those over 16 years until March 26.
Next Friday, March 5, the workshops 'Women looking at women' will begin, five creative meetings during five Fridays to explore feminism through the arts. On the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th of March, and the 2nd of April, these meetings will take place from 5 to 7 pm and with limited places. On Monday, March 8, the main event will take place at 12:00 with the aforementioned online reading of the manifesto. However, the program will begin from 8:00 am with the dissemination on the facebook Cultura Tías of a video about the history of feminism. That same platform will publish at 08:20 different links to download for free different books with feminist themes.
You can also view at 08:30, on the facebook Cultura Tías, a round table of the Cervantes Institute on feminism held in 2020. At 09:00 a guide for the non-sexist use of language will be published and at 09:30 'The constituents. Women in the history of politics in Spain' will be disseminated.
The facebook page Servicios Sociales Tías will host at 10 am the presentation of the video tribute '8M inspiring women of Tías' and an hour later will be presented the video made by the CD Magec Against Gender Violence and CB Puerto del Carmen. The day will end at 19:30 with a publication on the facebook Cultura Tías of a video art entitled 'The Second Sex, by Simone de Beauvoir'.
Online talks
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons there will be online talks through the facebook Servicios Sociales Tías. The first talk will take place on Tuesday, March 9 at 17:00 and will be given by the Civil Guard sergeant Gloria Moreno, who will talk about the role of women in animal protection.
The second talk will be offered on Wednesday, March 10 at 17:00 by the lawyer Irma Ferrer, who will talk about the defense of the territory from a feminist perspective. Finally, on Thursday, March 11, at 17:30, the third online talk will be held by the philosopher Larisa Pérez, who will talk about race, gender, canariedad and decolonization.
