The murgas Las Inadaptadas, Las Pijoletas and Las Enraladas have announced their decision not to participate in the 2021 Carnival due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Taking into account the seriousness of the events that are taking place, referring to the rapid spread of Covid-19 on our island, we are obliged to take this difficult decision. Our assessment and reasoning is fundamentally based on the responsibility that, as citizens, we have with ourselves and with the rest of the population, since, above all, the health and well-being of everyone must prevail", they state in a statement.
In the same, they clarify that "from the beginning" they showed their agreement "with the other groups on the viability of participating in the 2021 Carnival", as well as their "predisposition for it to go ahead, respecting the measures adopted by the body in charge of organizing the different events".
However, they point out that "the seriousness that the disease is acquiring over the last few days, and especially the increase in cases in Lanzarote" is what has made them "change their minds" and "therefore resolve in this way".
However, despite not participating in the next Carnival, they affirm that they will continue working "to return with more desire and encouragement than ever". "Because the most important thing is to be able to continue enjoying with all of you for many more years", add the murgas Las Inadaptadas, Las Pijoletas and Las Enraladas, who conclude by showing their "respect" to the groups that decide to participate.
