The strike by prison officials in Tahíche left inmates without visits throughout the weekend, which caused "discomfort" to some relatives "for not having been notified by the management" of the mobilization, according to sources from the prison union platform, composed of the unions UGT, CCOO, CSIF, ACAIP, UGT and CIGO. The stoppages, which began on Saturday after two days of strike in October, will continue until this Tuesday.
The monitoring of the strike, according to the unions, was during Saturday and Sunday "100%" of the staff that was not on minimum services, which caused the first day the opening of cells to be carried out at 10 hours, "two hours later than usual" and "without any security measure" according to the unions. On Sunday, they say, the cells were opened "at 8:30 hours", but also "without any security measure", and there was "a fight in module 4", although "it was resolved by the director."
As for the officials assigned to the minimum services, on Saturday they had to be escorted by the Civil Guard to be able to access the center through another door, since the workers who were on strike had blocked access to the prison again. In fact, the minimum services could not enter until 12:45 hours, a situation that was repeated on Sunday, when they could not enter their job until 13:30 hours.
"Passive resistance" before the Civil Guard
According to union sources, on Sunday, the Civil Guard tried to get the workers who were concentrated at the prison gates to withdraw to let the minimum services pass, but they refused. "And they were pulling us," said workers at the Tahíche prison, who say that in response they decided to show "passive resistance," getting the Benemérita troops to leave. However, after "a negotiation with the management," the union platform agreed to let the workers assigned to the minimum services pass, but from 13:30 hours.
It must be remembered that prison officials already carried out two days of strike in October demanding a series of improvements, including a salary increase as the Civil Guard and Police officers have had, as well as that the positions for retirements are covered with a Public Employment Offer and greater security against the aggressions they claim to suffer. However, given "the immobility of the Government," they decided to call a new strike in all Spanish prisons for the days 17, 18, 19 and 20 of November.
