The owners of the emblematic Gigi pizzeria in Arrecife, Gianluigi and Angelo Melis, have contacted La Voz to put an end to the confusion generated about the arrest of an Italian fugitive from justice in Lanzarote. "I have been here for 30 years and I wanted to clarify that we have nothing to do with the arrest of the Italian that everyone is talking about," explained Gianluigi Melis, known on the island as Gigi, to this editorial team. "There are three Italian pizzerias around the Gran Hotel," he indicated.

Specifically, they refer to the arrest on February 19 of a 67-year-old Italian man, against whom there was an extradition order issued by the authorities of his country for crimes committed between 1988 and 1995, including murder with a firearm, drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal gang of the Italian mafia. In this case, the fugitive was arrested by the Local Police of Arrecife and placed at the disposal of the National Police to be returned to the justice of his country.

In light of the news, disseminated by the National Police and the Local Police of Arrecife, some people confused the arrest of an Italian, owner of a pizzeria in the capital, with the Melis brothers, who have been running their business for three decades near the Casino.

Rumors have grown through social networks, where the arrest of the Italian fugitive from justice was related to the fact that the Gigi pizzeria has been closed for 15 days for vacation. Specifically, the business will reopen this coming March 13.

In addition, the brothers have also clarified that they have nothing to do with the arrest of three people in Tinajo in the framework of a drug operation that remains under seal.
