The Day Hospital of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital administered a total of 6,202 treatments during the past year 2021, which represents an increase in its activity of almost 10% compared to those applied in 2020.
According to the Health Department, this Day Hospital attends to "an average of 15 patients per day", who are referred from the different medical specialties of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital. These are patients who require treatment and other procedures or therapeutic techniques that are carried out on an outpatient basis and without the need for hospitalization.
The Nursing team of the Day Hospital works in coordination with the physicians of most of the medical sections. These health professionals focus their attention on the needs of the patient, and develop a program of appointments and treatments that guarantee their continuous assistance, while trying to provide them with greater autonomy.
The Health Department also points out that this hospital care area has "nine armchairs, one bed and one stretcher", located in a flexible and multi-purpose space to facilitate and adapt to the treatments of patients. The Day Hospital is, since its creation, "a fundamental support resource for outpatient consultations, hospitalization and for the units that need this type of treatment", and the Ministry adds that it is "a unit that guarantees and significantly improves patient care".
By specialties, the largest number of treatments administered in the Day Hospital, around 40%, corresponds to patients referred by Digestive System. There are also an increasing number of patients from Neurology and Rheumatology, while the rest come from specialties such as Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Nephrology, Pulmonology and Endocrinology.
In addition to the treatments, patients who come to the day hospital also receive advice from the nurses of this unit, who, when necessary, make an interconsultation with the specialists.
Regarding the type of treatments administered, the Health Department details that a third of the activity of the Day Hospital focuses "on intravenous therapies", since a total of 2,059 treatments of these characteristics were administered, with a significant increase of almost 58 percent compared to the previous year. On the other hand, they add that most of the therapies that are applied correspond to monoclonal and immunotherapeutic treatments.
