The different institutions of the island have commemorated the International Day against Gender Violence, which is celebrated this Friday, November 25, observing several minutes of silence, as a sign of rejection of sexist violence.
Thus, the Cabildo joined the strike planned for this International Day against Gender Violence and, at 12 noon, they observed silence at the doors of the first island institution, as well as at the Equality and Attention to Women Center (CIAM) of the Department of Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The Arrecife City Council has also made a two-minute stop at the doors of the Consistory. A municipal worker read a manifesto sent by the Canary Federation of Municipalities (FECAM) to all corporations. "From the Arrecife City Council we must insist on adapting legal measures, to protect women victims of violence more effectively, offering them actions aimed at increasing their safety and protection against complaints, prosecutions and convictions," the manifesto explained.
Teguise has also joined the rejection of sexist violence and has observed three minutes of silence. The same has been done by the Tías City Council, which has also organized a walk from Puerto del Carmen to the Real de Arrecife street.
The walk will start at 3:00 p.m. from the Beatriz hotel in Puerto del Carmen to the Real de Arrecife street, where the participants will join the concentration called by the Equality Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, in order to raise awareness among the population about gender violence against women.
