The international film, animation and video game festival 'Animayo' returns to Lanzarote after the pandemic

The Minister of Culture, Alberto Aguiar, highlights that "this year Animayo will reach more boys and girls because for the first time the children's sections of the festival will be brought to all the schools on the island."

The International Film, Animation and Video Game Festival, 'Animayo', celebrates its return to face-to-face events in Lanzarote with a loaded program of screenings and workshops that will take place from December 13 to 17, with the Pancho Lasso Art School as its core. This edition will feature the presence of prominent professionals in the field of animation, as well as numerous screenings that will showcase the best of this genre from the last three years.

The Minister of Culture of the Cabildo of LanzaroteAlberto Aguiar, celebrated "the return to face-to-face activity of an event that places Lanzarote at the epicenter of the animation genre in all its facets, whether creating films, generating visual effects, or making video games."

In addition, Aguiar expressed that "this festival is a unique opportunity for the people of Lanzarote to enjoy the best animation in the world, but it is also the perfect occasion, as has been demonstrated in editions, for the creators of Lanzarote to share their ideas and be able to meet and learn from other professionals in the sector." The Minister also highlighted that "this year Animayo will reach more boys and girls because for the first time the children's sections of the festival will be brought to all the schools on the island."

Specifically, the activities for schools in Lanzarote will take place in person in the classrooms of all educational centers on the island. They include screenings for primary school students, training presentations in TV format aimed at secondary and high school centers, screenings aimed at secondary school students, and school screenings for young audiences, aimed at high school and art school students. 

Currently, 'Animayo' is the only animation festival in Spain that qualifies in two categories for the pre-selection of the Oscar Awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Hollywood: animated short films and best animated work in the Spanish language "animation with Ñ." 
 

Animayo Lanzarote 2022

The Animayo 2022 program is embodied by excellent speakers and international guest stars, coming from leading production companies, schools and studios, invites you to participate in a tremendously solid animation, visual effects and new technologies industry.

Four days of program that will allow you to take a look at the audiovisual future and the best professional opportunities for talent and creative development. It will bring together top-level speakers, including directors, producers, animators, VFX supervisors and character designers who will offer up to 6 master classes and 3 face-to-face workshops. Some of them have worked on projects such as 'The Hobbit', 'The Avengers', 'Guardians of the Galaxy', 'Aquaman', 'Despicable Me', 'Minions', 'Sing' or 'Memories of a Man in Pajamas'. 

In addition, recovering the time stolen by the pandemic, every afternoon two sessions of the Animayo Awards will be screened, from 2020 to 2022, winning short films of animation and visual effects for adults. The children's and family audience will have their space on Saturday morning with the Screening of the Animayo Children's Awards, winning short films of Children's animation.

The short film 'The Longest Night Dawns' will premiere in Lanzarote, a short film that currently has a nomination in the 37th edition of the Goya Awards 2023, a film that will open the way to 'From Canvas to NFT', an augmented reality exhibition only visible when we focus on it with a mobile device.

Finally, 'Animayo' will promote once again the talent and development of the digital industry in Lanzarote through a program of U-tad study scholarships valued at more than 100,000 euros.
