The Arrecife gym where the Covid outbreak broke out has made public a letter in which it now announces its temporary closure for 12 days, while at the same time denying being the origin of these infections, which now affect 83 people.

"No outbreak related to Covid19 has originated in our center", they state in that letter that they have sent to their users and that they have also disseminated through Facebook, arguing that "there is confusing information" that is "leading to an unfair accusation." However, they acknowledge that the Health Department has carried out "a severe and meticulous study" of the gym, where in fact a screening of hundreds of users and workers is being carried out.

Regarding the positives that have been detected, the center states that "6 cases have recently been related" among its users and that "the rest of the announced infected are family members." However, the latest data from Health raises the infections to 83: 53 from users and workers and another 30 from family and social ramifications.

In addition, the company attributes those cases linked to the gym to "statistics." "Unfortunately, due to the current rebound of cases on the island, and sports facilities harboring a high percentage of the population of Arrecife, inevitably and statistically, cases have occurred among people who also attend our center," they argue.

Even, in their publication on Facebook they go so far as to state that all monitors have "a negative PCR performed by the Canarian Public Health Service on May 11, 2021", although the massive screening among users and workers began on the 12th, and in recent days positives have been detected among both clients and workers at the center.

Claims that after the inspections they have been "congratulated"

"We understand and share the general concern and therefore, we have been working with Health to clarify and investigate the facts, and avoid them if they were true," they add in their letter. "Since then we have received several inspections from Health, surpassing them all remarkably and working on every improvable aspect," they assure, even stating that they have received "congratulations from them." In this regard, what the director of the Health Area stated last Monday is that in those inspections "deficiencies" had been detected, but not "reasons to close any activity".

However, two weeks after the outbreak began, which has doubled its cases in recent days, the gym itself has decided to close "voluntarily" its facilities "for security" from this Friday the 14th to May 25th, both inclusive. With this, they point out that they want to get away "from any possibility of generating any more cases" and try to "protect the health" of their users. "I hope you understand this drastic cut at the root, but once it confirms that the virus has overcome our barriers, however little it may be, the only way to guarantee security again is this," they conclude in their letter.

In addition, despite insisting that the outbreak did not originate in their gym, the center apologizes "to those people directly affected and the possible derived cases." "We sincerely hope that they do not develop symptoms and that they overcome the infection with strength and without major difficulties," they say.
