Health inspectors have detected "deficiencies" in the Arrecife gym affected by a Covid outbreak, although not enough to close it, as confirmed by the director of the Lanzarote Health Area, Noelia Umpiérrez, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

"The technical inspectors have gone to several sports activities and have carried out the corresponding inspections and there are no sufficient reasons to close. In the sports field there is no problem. It has been detected that they have deficiencies, but they are not reasons to close any activity either," Umpiérrez pointed out.

The director of the Lanzarote Health Area has not detailed what deficiencies have been found, but she has specified that in the sports activities that were inspected, they were able to verify that "they are complying with the protocols" against Covid, insisting that "there are not enough deficiencies to close".

Some users of the affected gym have linked the outbreak to a masterclass "unrelated to the center" in which "users and workers of the same participated", although this has not been confirmed by Health. Likewise, they have not wanted to make the name of the gym public, appealing to the Data Protection Law.

"We should not put a black mark on any activity either," said the director of the Lanzarote Health Area, who nevertheless expressed her concern about the outbreak that, as of Tuesday morning, had already affected 52 people, of whom 29 were users or workers of the center and the rest family and friends.

In any case, with the screening that Health will do from this Wednesday, Umpiérrez hopes that the outbreak can be "controlled" and "closed" and that after that the accumulated incidence on the island will also decrease, which has been increasing since this outbreak was reported. "We are going to have the hope that there will be discharges and control of these cases, and we can return to that line that allows us to continue at level two, or even go down to level 1," she said.

Regarding the screening, she stressed that the gym managers have been "collaborating" to facilitate the list of all the center's users. In addition, she indicated that it was decided to send a "mass email" from the gym to its clients so that when Health called them to make an appointment "they would not be caught by surprise either." An email that users of the center have confirmed receiving. "They asked us that if the trackers called us, we should collaborate," one of them told La Voz.
