The Aguapata festivities, in the town of El Islote, and its popular donkey race have closed this weekend the festive calendar of San Bartolomé. The City Council has celebrated that the events of these festivities, among which, in addition to the race, there has been theater, a fair and other competitions, have had a "great participation".
Within the framework of these festivities, the XIX Aguapata Contest took place on the weekend, an event that has the collaboration of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote. The day continued enlivened by a night of parrandas, in which El Geito and Pál Porrón put the musical note to the good atmosphere prevailing in the Civic Center. That was the point of reference for neighbors and visitors to enjoy these endearing parties on a night in which the traditions "of aguapata and parrandeo" prevail. A total of 13 aguapatas participated in the contest. Finally, two prizes were awarded, which were collected by Cristo Fernández and José García respectively.
The program continued on Saturday with the collection of proposals for the public logo contest for the El Parral de El Islote Neighborhood Association. Later, as dusk fell, the donkey race arrived, a classic with great roots in these festivities that brings together young and old every year. A total of 18 riders joined this year's race, which in each edition has more public and participation. Riding their donkeys with great skill, the participants competed for the victory, which was finally achieved by Samuel García, while Ubai Betancort obtained second place.
The day continued with the play "There is no thief that does not come for good", which was staged by Actúa, entertaining the public that packed the seats. The festive night closed with a fair and, on Sunday, the events came to an end with events such as the foam party, a neighborhood lunch and the adult playback, which put 13 neighbors from the town on stage. The participants went up characterized on stage to perform songs from a lifetime and also current songs. In addition, this event, which was also full of public, was enlivened by Armando Ravelo as a guest artist. Finally, the night closed with fireworks, and also the festivities until next year.
