The Civil Guard presented this Tuesday at the Costa Teguise barracks the 15 new student guards who will be part of the corps in Lanzarote. Some students who, according to the Civil Guard, "will carry out their internship in different units of the island".

These 15 student guards are part of the 122nd promotion of Civil Guards who entered the Baeza academy (Jaén) in 2016; and to which are added another 27 who will do their internships on the islands of Gran Canaria (20) and Fuerteventura (7). Of the total of 42 new guards in the province of Las Palmas, 40 are men and two are women; one of them being one of those who join in Lanzarote.

The student guards temporarily assigned to this province have an average age very close to 30 years, according to reports from the Civil Guard. In addition, of these, 17 have higher education (university degrees and higher-level training cycles) and 26 are residents in the Autonomous Community.

In addition, of these 42 agents in practice, 16 entered through the places reserved for professional troops and sailors with at least five years of service, four are students of the College of Young Guards of Valdemoro and the rest entered through the free places.

The Civil Guard has pointed out that of the more than 44,000 applicants who in 2016 applied for the selection tests to access the Scale of Corporals and Guards of the Civil Guard, a total of 1,078 (139 women and 939 men) have entered directly through the free access modality. Likewise, 31 women and 444 men did so through the places reserved for professional troops and sailors who had a minimum of five years of service.

All of them, together with the 178 students (130 men and 48 women) who have completed their training at the "Duque de Ahumada" College of Young Guards in Valdemoro (Madrid), comprise the largest consignment of civil guards who have entered this Scale in recent years.

The average age of the 1,553 student guards of the 122nd promotion of Civil Guards is close to 29 years and more than 43% have a university degree, 143 also have postgraduate studies and five are PhDs. In addition, of the total number of student guards in this promotion, 69 are Canary residents (54 in Las Palmas and 15 in Tenerife).
