The provisional awarding of scholarships for the completion of official studies for the 2021/2022 academic year has already been approved by the Lanzarote Council. In addition, the Governing Council has given the green light to the call for aid for the current school year.

"We are allocating 700,000 euros to this year's call while we finish processing the scholarships from the past year. Aid that, pending the resolution of any allegations that may be presented, amounts to a total of 297,600 euros and will benefit more than 200 families and students on the island," says the president of the first island corporation, María Dolores Corujo.

As explained by the Councilor for Education, Myriam Barros, the scholarships for the completion of official studies granted by the Council are aimed at students who are studying in person outside the island, as well as official non-presential and presential studies carried out in Lanzarote.

"These scholarships are intended to cover the expenses derived from studying with validity in the national territory, such as the payment of public prices and academic fees, travel, accommodation, maintenance and/or expenses related to books and instrumental resources," adds Barros.

Specifically, for the call for scholarships corresponding to the 2021/2022 academic year, to which the institution had also allocated 700,000 euros, more than 1,200 applications were submitted. However, "the vast majority did not meet any of the requirements or did not appear to correct defects, and therefore it has not been possible to allocate the total amount of money budgeted," details the Councilor for Education.

However, a period of five working days is now open for those who wish to present allegations. "Once these are resolved, the final awarding and payment of the scholarships from the past year will proceed, while in the coming days the announcement of the aid for this year will be published and the deadline for submitting applications will be opened," points out Myriam Barros.

The list of provisional awards for the 2021/2022 scholarships can now be consulted on the institutional website and in the Edict Board of the corporation, as well as on the management website for scholarships/aid, where the announcement of the call for scholarships for the completion of official studies for the 2022/2023 academic year will also be inserted soon.
