The Cabildo of Lanzarote illuminated its facade in turquoise on Monday night to commemorate the National Day of Spanish Sign Language and "with the aim of giving visibility to this day and bringing Spanish sign languages closer to the whole society, as well as establishing values of tolerance towards diversity".

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, emphasizes "the importance of public administrations joining this cause and collaborating in the promotion of this language as a sign of support for deaf people, those with hearing disabilities and those who suffer from deaf-blindness who freely choose to use this language".

The Island Institution emphasizes that it "collaborates" on this day with the Association of Deaf People of the Canary Islands (Fasican), with the Association of Deaf People of Arrecife and Lanzarote (Apsal) and with the Cultural Association of Deaf People of Lanzarote (Asculsorlanz).

"This commemoration not only aims to share and promote the dissemination of this long-discriminated language, but also to make the day visible in order to promote measures to normalize its use, beyond the domestic, educational or socio-health fields. In short, to bring Spanish sign languages closer to the whole society, as well as to establish values of tolerance towards diversity", they emphasize from the Corporation.
