The arrival by dinghy of migrant people to the Canary archipelago has descended by 80% in the first month of 2026. In January 2025, a total of 4,752 people arrived at the archipelago, while this January only 959 have done so.

This decrease can also be seen in the number of precarious vessels that have reached the Canary Islands coasts. Specifically, only eight makeshift boats have arrived in the 31 days of January. This represents a decrease of 88.9% compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, arrivals by land to Ceuta and Melilla have increased by 358.9%. The majority of these arrivals occurred in the autonomous city of Ceuta, a total of 426, compared to 89 the previous year

Faced with the decline in the archipelago, the arrival of migrant people by sea to the peninsula has increased by 64.62%, reaching 484, compared to 294 a year earlier. In the Balearic Islands, they have grown slightly, by 23.2%, to 388 people.
