The Arrecife History Museum, located in the Castle of San Gabriel, will open "in the next few weeks", according to the mayor, Manuel Fajardo Feo. "All the problems that existed have already been overcome, so it will be a reality soon," he told La Voz.

The mayor pointed out that several "obstacles" had to be overcome, mainly due to Heritage issues, since it was acting on a listed building. "Any action such as the electrical installation had to be done with extreme care, complying with Heritage regulations and also with safety regulations," said Fajardo Feo.

In addition, the City Council had to solve another "additional problem" in the sanitation, whose permit depended on the Port Authority of Las Palmas. "We already have it and we will do the sanitation on the esplanade in front of the Castle."

The mayor believes that this museum will be "a good cultural facility for Arrecife and also for visitors." In it, "a large part" of the history of the municipality will be shown and will allow the creation of a "cultural circuit" formed by the two castles, San Gabriel and San José, the House of Culture and El Almacén.

"Arrecife will be well equipped in the cultural field and will be attractive for the people of Arrecife and for visitors," the mayor defended.
