The air quality in Lanzarote and La Graciosa registers unfavorable values and in some points even very unfavorable, according to the data from the measurement stations. The intense haze that affects the archipelago has triggered the levels of suspended particles (PM10 and PM2.5), which poses a health risk to the population.
The Lanzarote Emergency and Security Consortium has issued a notice recommending suspending outdoor activities, especially in educational and elderly centers, where the most vulnerable population is concentrated.
It also recommends that workers who must carry out their work outdoors use masks and that people with respiratory problems avoid exposure to the outdoors while these pollution parameters are maintained.
The most common symptoms associated with exposure to this type of pollution are cough, throat irritation, excessive fatigue, difficulty breathing or palpitations. Faced with any of these signs, health authorities advise going immediately to a health center.
The haze episode also coincides with a yellow heat warning, which increases the health risk. The Consortium recalls the importance of taking extreme precautions and staying informed through official channels while the situation lasts.
