The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts locally heavy showers and storms in Lanzarote and La Graciosa for this weekend, caused by the arrival of a cold front and a period of meteorological instability.
The Emergency and Security Consortium has reported that a new cold front is expected, following the one that arrived last Wednesday, and an atmosphere of meteorological instability starting this Friday. This instability is caused by a front that will extend for thousands of kilometers across the peninsula and the positioning of an anticyclone in central Europe.
The meteorological instability may bring isolated pressure with heavy rains, strong winds, and rough seas in the archipelago, also having a special impact on coastal areas.
In the case of Lanzarote, a yellow alert has been activated for adverse coastal phenomena. The Consortium indicates that the sea will be very rough, especially on Saturday, with waves that could reach eight meters.
The Emergency Consortium has indicated that starting Friday morning, a cold front will enter, bringing the first light rains to all the islands of the archipelago. From the afternoon onwards, they could intensify in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Therefore, heading into Saturday, the situation is expected to worsen, especially in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and La Graciosa. At that point, the rains should be stormy and of moderate intensity.
According to the Consortium, the peak will occur in the early morning and morning of Sunday, especially on the north face of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which could suffer very persistent and heavy rainfall. While in Tenerife and Gran Canaria more than 100 liters per square meter could be exceeded and up to 200 liters per square meter offshore, in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, 20 liters per square meter could accumulate
