Some residents of Los Pitufos have decided to declare war on Unelco, since they have received "inflated" bills in their homes, which in some cases are around 600 euros. "My bill is 200 euros, although my neighbors have received one for 573 and 300 euros", explains Teresa, one of the neighbors affected by this increase in electricity bills.
Outraged by these bills, the affected residents of Los Pitufos went to the Unelco headquarters on Monday morning to receive explanations about the reason for this increase in their electricity bill. "They told us that it is due to delayed invoices, but I have receipts for 70 and 80 euros, so if they were delayed payments they should have charged us only a minimum in some previous month", says Teresa.
This neighbor has also explained that the electric company has told them that the meters have not been read in their homes since 2005, so they have been charging them an estimated expense since then. "In addition, they have also told us that the electricity increase has been applied to us, but if they are late receipts, this increase should not be passed on to us."
After hearing the explanations from Unelco, these residents of Los Pitufos went to the Cabildo headquarters to file a complaint with the Consumer Office for what they believe is a "theft" by the electric company. "There is no right, this is a robbery", alleges Teresa, who has also explained that the person who attended them at the Consumer Office gave them a form to fill out, "and she herself was surprised by the issue".
