The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has decreed the closure of all municipal sports, cultural and leisure facilities, with the suspension of all activities to be carried out in them. It has been a decision that he has made within the situation of weather alert declared by the Government of the Canary Islands.
The effective closure of the facilities has occurred since 8 am this Tuesday, indefinitely and until the impact of the adverse weather phenomena is assessed. "In the next few hours and depending on the evolution of these phenomena, the convenience of adopting other types of measures at the municipal level will be studied," the mayor said.
The measure has been taken, as explained by the City Council, taking into account the "serious danger" that the use of these municipal facilities could pose to users.
The mayor can adopt the closure based on Law 7/1985 of April 2, regulating the bases of the local regime, which provides that the mayor has the power, under his responsibility, in case of catastrophe or public misfortune or serious risk thereof, to take the necessary and appropriate measures, giving immediate account to the Plenary.
Without prejudice to the agreed closure and suspension, the City Council also recommends that the population avoid, as far as possible, any type of recreational or recreational activity in open spaces.
Likewise, the mayor of Teguise has recalled that in the event of any incident, "residents can go to the Local Police of Teguise, or call the Immediate Intervention Operation, which is coordinated by Councilor Eugenio Robayna."
