The intense haze episode that is hitting Lanzarote means that the air quality in Arrecife is "extremely unfavorable". Thus, among the six possible scenarios, this is the worst, since the "entire population can be seriously affected" by suspended particles of less than ten microns. This is collected by the Air Quality Control and Monitoring Network in the Canary Islands.
For citizens of Arrecife who belong to risk groups, this system asks them to avoid "prolonged stays" outdoors and to go to the emergency services if their health worsens. In addition, the use of "adequate protection" is advised for those jobs that require it.
In addition to this, the poor air quality also in Las Caletas and in the Costa Teguise station, classified as "very unfavorable" in both cases. The Government of the Canary Islands advises the general population to reduce outdoor activities and move them indoors or postpone them. At the same time, it advises risk groups and sensitive people to avoid outdoor exposure and follow the plan "meticulously".
Suspended particles of less than 2.5 and less than ten microns are worsening the air quality index (AQI) in Lanzarote, which is calculated from temporal data of the different pollutants collected at the control stations.
On the island of volcanoes, air quality is measured in Arrecife center, the Ciudad Deportiva area, El Charco, Las Caletas and Costa Teguise. Thus, particles smaller than ten microns make the quality "very unfavorable" in almost all stations in Lanzarote, except for the two in Arrecife, which are "extremely unfavorable".
In addition to this, there are suspended particles of less than 2.5 microns. In this case, the air quality in Arrecife and Costa Teguise is unfavorable, in the Ciudad Deportiva of the capital "very unfavorable" and in Las Caletas, "reasonably good".
At noon this Thursday, Lanzarote reached 33.4 degrees at the Airport, according to data collected by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
