Six boats intercepted near Lanzarote in the last twelve hours

Around 300 people of sub-Saharan and Maghrebi origin, including several women and children, were traveling in the six precarious boats

Maritime Rescue has rescued around 301 people who were traveling in six boats this Wednesday morning, according to the Emergency Consortium.

In the early hours of this Wednesday, the first three were rescued. They carried 48, 56 and 45 people, respectively, who were transferred to Puerto Naos before three in the morning. 

The precarious boat in which 45 people were traveling was intercepted five nautical miles east of Arrecife and contained people of Maghrebi and sub-Saharan origin. No further details have emerged from the other two.

Later, a fourth boat was rescued, at 07.30 in the morning. On this occasion, 47 people, five women and two children were traveling on it.

Meanwhile, on the fifth boat rescued at 09.24, the Guardamar Urania has saved the lives of 54 people of sub-Saharan origin, seven women and two minors. All of them in apparent good health. 

At 10.05 in the morning, the Salvamar Al Nair assisted another 51 migrants, 45 men and six women of sub-Saharan origin. On this occasion, they came to the rescue after the coordinates provided by the satellite telephone. Maritime Rescue diverted a ship to the site, which located the boat and waited for the arrival of the Salvamar. 

The 301 people who arrived in Lanzarote during the early hours of this Wednesday are in apparent good health.
