Lanzarote will not suspend classes in schools this Thursday, nor sports activities "if the storm's trajectory does not change." Initially, these centers will remain open and sports facilities can also be reopened if the storm does not worsen, which is not expected. The CEO La Graciosa will remain closed, where there were no classes this Wednesday either.

The manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, has explained that the wind is expected to "subside tonight" and the rains "will not be as strong as expected."

To prevent any circumstance, there are more than 60 people prepared to act from 9:00 p.m. until "whatever is needed." "If something happened and the weather conditions worsened, we would update the alert and, through the Consortium and the media, we would inform the population," Espinosa said.

This Wednesday, a Security Board has taken place with all the institutions on the island, and also another specific one only for Arrecife in the event of flooding. The firefighters will provide bags with sawdust and sand to the residents of the areas that are usually flooded when the rains fall.

"We are going to place them in a series of places, close to where there are usually floods. People can pick it up and place it on the doors of their businesses," said the manager of the Consortium, who also assured that they will fence off some corners of Triana and Portugal streets, where "there are always problems." In addition, they will have a truck prepared with fences in case it is necessary to cut off any other street and a mechanical shovel in case "it is necessary to act due to any circumstance."

Small incidents in Lanzarote due to the storm

Despite the strong wind that is hitting the island this Wednesday, the firefighters have practically not carried out any noteworthy actions, at least until 3:00 p.m. Until that time, they had removed a sheet with a danger of falling in the Segundino Delgado roundabout, in Arrecife, and also some loose fences in a construction site in the El Reducto area.

Likewise, they have secured a glass window that was loose and in danger of breaking and have moved to the Guenia school, in Guatiza, where at first it seemed that a pergola could collapse, although finally it was an asphalt fabric that had come loose due to the wind.

In addition, the firefighters have freed the water downspouts of the Argana school so that they are clean in the face of the rains that are expected on Thursday and have secured a solar door on Doctor Fleming street, in Arrecife.

As for the sea, despite the fact that some bathers, and especially surfers and windsurfers, have launched into the water at various points along the coast, there have been no incidents.
