Since Wednesday morning, the blue flag has been flying in Puerto Calero, a distinction awarded every year by the European Foundation for Environmental Education to beaches and ports that meet a series of environmental and facility conditions.
The event was attended by the mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, as well as the Councilor for Tourism, Evaristo García, the managers of the tourist-sports facility, José Calero and José Juan Calero, and the director of the Marina, Constante Lorenzo.
To obtain this distinction, compliance with a series of sanitary-environmental levels is required, as well as lifeguard, rescue and first aid services on the beach or in the port with the Blue Flag. An important element is the quality of the water, which must be excellent and without the presence of spills of any kind.
Spain currently has 571 blue flags, of which 493 are for beaches and 78 for marinas. The Canary Islands has received 39 Blue Flag awards in the 2009 edition.
In the coming dates, the Blue Flag of Playa will be raised
Blanca.
