Las Cucharas beach in Costa Teguise has reopened for swimming, after being closed last Friday due to fecal contamination.

Public Health ordered this measure after detecting high levels of the E.coli bacteria, only three days after its reopening after the storm. According to the Councilor for Emergencies of the Teguise City Council, Eugenio Robayna, the reason was that water with mud was still arriving through the Hurón ravine, as well as sewage from nearby sewers.

Finally, after repeating the analyses, Public Health has authorized swimming again, "after not detecting levels of the E.coli bacteria in its waters", according to Robayna.

The Popular Party has described the tourist image given by the municipality as "disastrous" with issues like this and urges the government group "to implement the necessary improvements to avoid this problem in the environment that is qualified with the blue flag".
