The Salvar Famara neighborhood platform has demonstrated in front of the Teguise City Council headquarters this Thursday morning. With a banner written on a cloth that read "We are La Caleta, not a parking lot", these citizens have protested against the Mobility Plan that the council has installed in the fishing town.
Specifically, two weeks ago, the town of La Caleta woke up with dozens of battery parking spaces that cover two lanes that were previously intended for vehicles. Traditionally, this town was destined for life towards the sea, especially fishing, but in recent years it has become a tourist focus, which has increased the number of vehicles that travel to the place.
Among the neighborhood complaints is that, despite the increase in parking spaces available in La Caleta, tourist vehicles continue to park on the Famara Dunes Natural Park. In addition, they have pointed out that this new way of locating parking lots turns the town "into a parking lot" and takes away its essence, leaving almost no space for pedestrians.
Meanwhile, the Teguise City Council has not budged on the possible revision of the town's parking plan, which has been requested by the opposition Nueva Canarias and the Socialist Party.
