The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) of Teguise will present a motion in the next plenary session of the City Council with the aim of improving the current mobility plan of Caleta de Famara, which has caused a reaction of discomfort among the residents of the town when they found 200 new parking spaces on Avenida El Marinero, changes in entry and exit directions, lack of universal mobility and spaces for pedestrians, and zero citizen participation.

The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias - Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) of Teguise is going to present a motion in the plenary session of the City Council in order to improve the current mobility plan of Caleta de Famara. The installation of parking spaces at the entrances of the town has led the population to create the Salvar Famara platform with the aim of protesting against the decisions of the consistory.

"It has caused a reaction of discomfort among the residents of the town when they found 200 new parking spaces on Avenida El Marinero, changes in the directions of entry and exit, lack of universal mobility and spaces for pedestrians, and zero citizen participation", Nueva Canarias began in a statement.

From NC-BC they have supported the civil claims that have demanded "a paralysis of said plan and a better adaptation to the natural environment and idiosyncrasy of the town, in addition to requesting a determined commitment to sustainable mobility and the brake on unlimited development".

Thus, the Canarian organization will propose to the conservative government group of CC, PP and Vox, among others, that "the mobility of Caleta be planned in a sustainable way with the creation of a bike lane, which ensures travel along Avenida El Marinero; that sidewalks be improved and created that facilitate reduced mobility or pedestrian travel; and that tactical urban planning actions be planned that enable the enabling of public spaces for coexistence between residents and where the resident pedestrian is prioritized over the tourist's car".

For the councilor of NC-BC Fernando Jiménez “the actions that the government group of Teguise has carried out in Caleta are irrational and do not adapt to the needs of the town”, in addition, the councilor continues, “they go against the fishing image of Famara and do not solve the underlying problem of tourist saturation that affects the natural environment”.

On the other hand, the Canarians ask the government group to commit to the creation of friendly environments that generate neighborhood coexistence and favor residents to gain territory from cars, given that now only 20% of public space is enjoyed by pedestrians.

“We are on the side of people and not cars. That is the main foundation of the Biosphere Reserve, the link between people and the island. We cannot renounce that link,” says Fernando Jiménez.
