The collapse in the processing of disability and dependency files by the Government of the Canary Islands is leading some families in Lanzarote to very complicated situations by not being able to receive the corresponding aid to improve their quality of life in terms of special needs. This is the case of Chaxiraxi Pérez González, a mother residing in Nazaret whose 13-year-old daughter Saioa with Down Syndrome and 56% disability suffers this delay in the assessment of dependency.

Saoia is a student in the classroom at the Los Geranios school in Arrecife and her mother reports that the administrative collapse could reach "two years in disability reviews and be even greater in first assessments, reaching almost four years of delay in some cases, especially in those that require the intervention of psychologists in Lanzarote".

Chaxiraxi explains that she requested the revision of her daughter's degree of disability in March 2024, two months before the current recognition expired, set for May 31, 2024. Despite the advance notice, the initial response received at the office of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands in Lanzarote was disheartening: "They told me to be patient because the delay is considerable."

This delay in the processing of dependency means that Chariraxi cannot have the deduction of 1,200 euros in the Income Tax Return.
