The CEIP Playa Blanca building has a new mural that has been created by the primary school students of the center to pay tribute to César Manrique on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. The reproduction of one of Manrique's works was made with pieces of tiles of different colors using the trencadís technique to a size of 5.20 by 1.22 meters.

"It has been an exciting, collaborative and educational work, in which we all contribute our desire to pay tribute to the great artist from Lanzarote", they point out from the school. The mural was unveiled last Friday in an emotional event in which students from CEIP Playa Blanca, members of the school's management team, teachers and a representation of the island's education directorate, the Yaiza City Council and the César Manrique Foundation (FCM) participated.

The mayor, Óscar Noda, and the president of the FCM, José Juan Ramírez, praised the school's initiative and the result of this collective work forged by children who pay heartfelt tribute to Manrique.

Before unveiling the mural, a group of sixth grade students participated in a talk about the life, work, thought and activism of César Manrique given by the head of the pedagogical department of the FCM, Alfredo Díaz, and from the City Council they highlight that "during the school year the students of the center receive information about the figure of the universal artist".

The director of the school, Trinidad Pérez, and the deputy director, Raquel Rodríguez, highlighted the creative work of the boys and girls and the commitment of the center's counselor and project coordinator, Juan Montelongo. In addition, CEIP Playa Blanca has invited the entire educational community of the municipality to visit the mural in tribute to César Manrique.
