Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía pledged, on their recent visit to Lanzarote, to acquire and offer wines from the island at upcoming official events held at the Palacio de la Zarzuela. Both showed special interest when they approached the stand of the promotion and awareness campaign of the Wines Designation of Origin Lanzarote, which was present in the lobby of the Congress Hall of the Hotel Meliá Salinas, where the lunch offered by the Royal House to some 150 guests from Lanzarote society was held.
The Queen, for her part, conveyed to the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, the intention to get to know the unique wine-growing landscape of the island and the special way of cultivating the vine in Lanzarote, postponing this excursion for her next visit to the island. During the lunch, the Kings highlighted the quality of the Malvasía wines during the official lunch, where a dry and semi-sweet white wine was served to accompany the different dishes, ending with a muscatel from the land.
Just before lunch the Kings approached together with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Adán Martín, and the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, to the wine promotion stand, where they could observe some photographs of the island's wine-growing landscape.
