Lanzarote has experienced the third wettest April in its history. According to the climatological progress report of the Canary Islands, last April suffered an "extremely wet" episode, with 365% more rainfall than expected, above the Canarian average.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has recorded 50.3 millimeters of rain throughout the month in the archipelago. In this sense, it was only surpassed by the rainfall recorded in the years 1977 and 1982.

Aemet has highlighted the episode of last April 12, where the base of the storm Olivier together with the humidity of the trade winds generated "strong showers, very localized", in the eastern part of the island of Lanzarote, with greater accumulations in the municipalities of Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Teguise, which "caused material damage".

Despite being a rainier month than usual, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria have recorded a temperature anomaly of 0.3 degrees. In the eastern part of the eastern islands they were warmer, while in the western islands they were lower and colder. In addition, greater positive anomalies were recorded in the minimum temperatures.

On the island of volcanoes, the maximum temperature recorded was 25.7 degrees, at the station located at the Lanzarote Airport. Meanwhile, in La Graciosa it was 24.2 degrees at the heliport. Thus, the highest minimums on the island occurred in Playa Blanca, with 18.6 degrees, and 18.3 in La Graciosa.

For the eastern province it was a warm April, the 16th warmest since 1961, the year in which data began to be recorded. Thus, the average temperature in the archipelago was normal, since despite the mismatch in the province of Las Palmas, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the anomaly was -0.3 degrees.

Unlike April 2024, when 253 tropical nights were recorded, this year there was no night in which the thermometer exceeded 20 degrees.

Tinajo and the passage of storm Nuria

Last April was marked by the passage of storm Nuria during the first days. To which is added the passage of a front associated with the storm Olivier, between April 9 and 10. At the end of the month the trade winds intensified, which translated into greater wind force.

On April 3, the town of Los Dolores, in Tinajo, recorded 91 kilometers per hour of wind. This day the archipelago reached winds of up to 124 kilometers per hour in Izaña, at 2,369 meters of altitude.
