Lanzarote exceeds 34 degrees on the second day of the heat wave, with impossible nights

This Friday, the island remains under wind alert, but temperatures are expected to stabilize and remain below 30 degrees.

The heat wave continues to make itself felt in Lanzarote. The stations of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) on the island have recorded temperatures above 34 degrees this Thursday. In contrast, for this Friday, the island remains under wind alert, but temperatures are expected to stabilize and remain below 30 degrees.

While last Wednesday the highest temperature on the island was reached in the municipality of Tías, where it reached 37 degrees, this Thursday it was San Bartolomé that occupies the first position for heat.

At the Aemet station at the Airport, at 4:00 p.m. the temperature reached 34.7 degrees, the highest temperature of the day. It was not until 8:00 p.m. that the thermometer dropped above 26 degrees, leaving a torrid night, where it did not drop below 25 degrees.

The heat was felt throughout the island and, for example, in Tías the 33 degrees arrived at 1:00 p.m. The nights in the municipality were less hot than in San Bartolomé, but did not drop below 20 degrees, being considered tropical nights.

In the municipality of Haría a maximum of 33 degrees was also reached and the nights were as hot as in San Bartolomé, with temperatures above 26 degrees.

In the south of the island, the Aemet station in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, reached the lowest maximums in Lanzarote, with 28.9 degrees maximum at noon, but nights above 23 degrees. Temperatures in Tinajo were similar to those in Yaiza, with maximums above 28 degrees and nights above 20.

In La Graciosa, 30 degrees were exceeded at noon. At around 3:00 p.m., the Aemet station at the Heliport of the eighth island detected its highest peak, while during the night it fell to 23 degrees.

 

More than 70 kilometers per hour

Regarding the wind, the island continues this Friday on yellow alert for wind. In addition, it recorded gusts of more than 70 kilometers per hour throughout Thursday. Specifically, the Aemet station at the César Manrique Airport recorded a gust of 71 kilometers per hour at 9:00 a.m. Throughout the day, the maximum gusts at the aerodrome were close to 60 kilometers per hour.

In municipalities such as Haría or Tinajo these gusts of wind also exceeded 60 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, in La Graciosa the maximum gust of 53 kilometers per hour was reached, decreasing the wind during the early morning.
