The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has reported that last January was the eighth warmest since data collection began in 1961. According to the climatological advance, in the first month of 2025 the average temperature was 15.7 degrees, a mismatch of 0.9 degrees above normal, classifying these temperatures as "very warm."

In contrast, the accumulated rainfall was only half (54%) of what was expected. Aemet defines this month as "pluviometrically normal" and the 24th driest in 64 years.

This temperature mismatch was not the same in the two provinces, but was felt more in Santa Cruz de Tenerife than in Las Palmas. For example, regarding average temperatures, in the westernmost province the anomaly was 1.1 degrees, while in Las Palmas it was 0.8 degrees.

As for the maximum temperature, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the positive deviation was 1.4 degrees, while in the easternmost it was 1.2 degrees. Also, the minimums were 0.6 degrees warmer on average in the archipelago.

In January, there was no tropical night, that is, none above 20 degrees.

Yes, the temperature exceeded 20 degrees during the day. For example, on the eve of Epiphany, La Graciosa recorded 23.3 degrees at the heliport station. Thus, Lanzarote reached 24.9 degrees on January 11 in the airport area.

Regarding the highest minimum temperatures, Lanzarote recorded a minimum of 18.1 degrees in Playa Blanca on January 13 and 18 degrees in La Graciosa.

Although last January began with temperatures below the reference average, temperatures began to rise between January 4 and 11. That day the archipelago recorded a positive anomaly of 2.5 degrees above the reference average. Since then, temperatures have been falling, affected by the arrival of an anticyclone and concluding from January 18 in further declines due to the passage of the Garoé storm.

The passage of storms Ivo and Herminia near the Canary Islands meant that last January said goodbye with falling temperatures. In addition, the islands recorded strong winds.
